In 2014 I started down the track of improving my mille fluer colour in my pekin by crossing back to the Belgian. Below is a pic of the first cross, with the 2nd cross hopefully happening in Feb 2015. This will be two generations in the one hatching season... fingers crossed.

This year I've taken some advice from a wise but young breeder. I'm going to cross my best mille fleur pekin rooster with this Belgian. I figure if I'm serious about the colour I should do the hard yards to get it right. I'm also going to try to get two generations in the one season. Which means I need to start hatching now!

The Canberra Royal Poultry show was on the 8th and 9th of June 2013. The numbers were down compared to previous years but it still had 700 birds. This year the feature breed was the pekin. I came home with the Best Mottle award for a pekin I didn't breed, but very proud of any way. This bird was brought from Sellen family in Queensland.

The following was brought to my attention. Very concerning...

Well its end of November and the incubators are off. Approximately 120 chicks running around and all doing well. A large percentage are mottles because there was one in 3 of the 4 breeding pens. So I should have a good selection to choose from for next year breedering pairs. However it does mean I may not have any millie fleurs worth showing next year.

The largest collection of pekins will be on show at Maitland NSW, 28th - 29th July. There is also a auction on the 29th. They pride themselves on the quality of pekins up for sale.

In order to improve the size and shape of my Millefeur flock, I'm getting some mottles from a well respected breeder in Queensland. I'm very excited.

The big royal National Canberra poultry show is over. It was a great success with exhibitors coming from all over Australia. Many local club members did really well, taking home prize cards and ribbons. This was Debbie's first attempt at showing and all four of her birds came home with placings. First in both Millefleur pullet and cockerel classes. Not bad. Now for the champion or reserve champion Millefleur.
