Pekin x Belgian update

Posted by Debbie Maher on January 5, 2015 at 4:50 AM

In 2014 I started down the track of improving my mille fluer colour in my pekin by crossing back to the Belgian. Below is a pic of the first cross, with the 2nd cross hopefully happening in Feb 2015.  This will be two generations in the one hatching season... fingers crossed.

The colour is beautiful. With the second cross are you crossing the pullets back to the father? Must be quite a job to breed away the beard? Can't wait to see the end product Debbie, think your doing great! Thanx for keeping us posted.

Hi Elma,

I'm putting daughters back to pekin dad. Plus a couple of the cockerels are going across pekin hens. I'm hoping the next x they will look more like pekins. I've been told the muffs are the hardest thing to get rid of, but if they are closer to pekin in type and still have this colour I will be happy.

I'm sure they will, the colours are beautiful. Can't believe you are already this far with the breeding.
I'm learning a lot from you and can't wait for the next update.
